Charged EVs | EV charging provider FreeWire expands to Europe, opens UK headquarters
FreeWire Technologies provides battery-integrated EV charging stations and energy management solutions. The company’s Boost Charger DC fast chargers are found at gas stations and other locations in several regions of the US.
FreeWire has also been busy in Europe—it recently deployed a Boost Charger at a bp gas station in Milton Keynes, UK, and another at a public fueling station in Vigo, Spain. The company has more deployments planned for the UK, Ireland, the Benelux countries, Spain and Italy in 2023.
“Apart from the much shorter delivery time, the continuous low power consumption, in particular, was appreciated by the local power company,” said Johan Bauwelinck, CEO of Bauwelinck, a regional car dealership for which FreeWire installed a battery-integrated charger in Antwerp. “The installation of the Boost Charger itself was surprisingly simple and quick.”
In April, FreeWire will cut the ribbon on a new European headquarters. The facility in Banbury, Oxfordshire will be home to Freewire’s European team, and will serve as a hub for the company’s business in Europe. The site also includes a Sales and Demonstration Center.
“Our expansion in Europe is a milestone FreeWire has reached following a year of major growth,” said James Jean-Louis, European Head of Sales. “We have doubled our company headcount and deployed Boost Chargers in Canada, Ireland, Spain, and Belgium just in the last 12 months. We see a major opportunity to offer reliable, flexible, and cost-effective infrastructure that can be deployed quickly to support the rapid growth in demand for ultrafast EV charging in Europe.”
